- “Day trip to heaven!”martysgirl8818 of January 2017
A gem in the middle of nowhere! The ride there was amazing and a little nail biting! We so enjoyed our stay at this beautiful place nestled in the Andes near a Volcano. The food and staff were everything you could ask for. The hot volcano hot spring pools were amazing and something I will always remember. We hired a guide to take us on a hike into the forest, although at the elevation we had a tough time breathing, he was very helpful and took us to a gorgeous waterfall. We did not spend the night, we hiked then ate and rested in the pools.
- “Gorgeous and Completely Soothing”hectormountain19 of january 2017
Where to begin? The setting is absolutely gorgeous. The pools are very well-designed and meticulously maintained. The design of the buildings is marvelous as well. The public bathing area ($4/day for seniors) is wonderful and a great bargain with pools of ascending temperature from tepid to scorching. Staff are always very accommodating. For a splurge, now and then, we book a cabin in the “private” part of the resort. The cabins are beautifully-designed and very comfortable with (in some) a large tiled tub with shower and a choice of thermal spring water or tap water. The staff come to set a fire in the chiminea whenever you call. The pools outside your front door are lovely and offer mountain views and flower covered rock walls are part of the soothing environment. The dining room of the hotel makes very good food – including the very best of the national potato soup “Locro de Papas”. The high-ceilinged bar with massive fireplace and cozy couches is perfect for having your coffee and dessert after lunch or dinner. Try the pie de babaco if they have it. Babaco is a football-shaped fruit that is, possibly, the most popular and widely-eaten fruit in the country. It is a common breakfast drink with an apple/pear quality that has a tiny hint of lemon. It’s wonderful as a dessert resembling, a bit, apple pie filling but unique on its own. The hotel stay is a bit pricey for Ecuador but really worth the money. At the least, go to the public pools for the day. It is easily worth the hour+ trip from Quito. We first went there the morning after our first late-night arrival in Ecuador. How refreshing! It still is so 7 years later. We go to some part of it 3 or 4 times a year and are never disappointed.
- “Fantastischer Ort Zum Entspannen”Marcelina B22 of January 2017
- “Volcanic Hot Spring fed Pools, RELAXATION!”Kevin D29 of January 2017
All the rooms are located next to the pools that are fed by volcanic hot springs and in between them are cooling pools, so for the health benefits you go from one to the other. I’ve got to admit I spent more time in the warmth of the mineral waters.
There is a spa attached to this Hotel that has pools, a turkish steam room, and massage tables. Just don’t spend too much time in the pools prior to your spa experience hence you might get dehydrated, so drink plenty of water and be aware of your intake. This was part of a Gate 1 Tour Ecuador/Peru.
